Letter to Cora (Teeple) Johnson from Jorge, Bob, Bobbie and Don Johnson

May 4, 1950

May 4, 1950
Dear Grandma,
Say, Mrs J - we're having trouble keeping up with you these days! You're becoming almost as difficult to trace as Bobby is. He's decided he's big enough and old enough to walk up town whenever he pleases. Fortunately, the wanderlust hasn't taken him any farther than Swanson's grocery.
Mrs Waldmeier said at Mary-Martha's today that she had receieved your note. She is certainly doing fine now. I expect you'll be hearing from her.
As you may have gathered from the bulletins we sent with your birthday gift, the month of April was a hectic time for us. That evangelistic mission series was quite tiring coming so soon after Easter. The two Texas preachers stayed here during those two weeks. The 3 fellows would leave here for Moline (Mrs Newcomer let them use her car) every morning at 7:30 & return home in the middle of the afternoon. They heard lectures from leading religious men of the U.S., as well as Hawaii. We all were invited out to dinner most every evening along with the visiting preachers. Services, of course, were held each night.
We're attempting to straighten records & get caught up on necessary business before conference which is June 6th at Bloomington. Bob is typing a parish letter & jiggling the table which is the only thing keeping me awake tonight.
Tues is the annual W.S.C.S May luncheon. As yet, I don't have my speech prepared. Fortunately, it's to be a short one on Family Week.
The weather has been so peculiar. Last weekend it thundered constantly, from Friday night 'til Sun noon. I;ve never heard anything like it. Our basement was a lake & still smells terrible. We've been having rain 'most every day - either in the morning or the afternoon. Everything is at least two weeks behind. But, at least, we have part of our garden in.
Did you find the picture Bobby colored especially for you? How he enjoys coloring & he does like that puzzle you sent him so well that it's quite worn out.
Don is a lazy bones. He walks quite well, but still seems to think he can get around more quickly by creeping. He can hardly believe he'll be year old tomorrow & Bobby will be 3 next week!
We are so glad you will soon be feeling better. Write us if you want or need anything while you are in the hospital. We'll be thinking of you and praying for you.
With all our love,
Bob, Jorge, Bobby & Don.
