Description : Death of Mrs. Hannah [Niles] Wood on 1/6/1883.
Transcription : Obituary. Died--In Harrisville, Mich., January 6, 1883, Mrs. Hannah Wood aged nearly 75 years. The subject of this memoir was born at North Danville, Vermont, March 16, 1808. Her maiden name was Niles. She was united in marriage to Abram Noyes in the year 1830, and shortly after removed with husband to Michigan and settled in Detroit. In the year 1843 Mr. Noyes died, and two years after she was married to John Wood, with whom she removed from Detroit to Royal Oak. In the year 1860 Mr. Wood also died and ten years after she came to Harrisville where she lived until her death. At an early age the subject of religion became, to her mind, the all absorbing theme, leading to entire consecration of herself to God, and His cause. Shortly after her conversion she united with the Free-Will Baptists, and after moving to Detroit she joined the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she remained a faithful member until she was called to the church triumphant. Although Sister Wood's last illness was brief and her death sudden, to many, yet the messenger found "her house in order." As dissolution drew near she called her children around her and gave them her last counsel in earnest, loving words. Assured them that the religion that sustained her amid all the cares and trials and bereavements that she had experienced, amply supported her spirit in the last ordeal. Her funeral took place from the M. E. church, on Sunday afternoon, the pastor preaching an appropriate discourse to a large audience, from the words, "Blessed are the dead who die in the lord, etc.," Rev. 14, 13. Four children, Abram Noyes of this village, Nancy McClatchy (children of the first marriage), Mrs. F. Chapelle, and John Wood, (children of the second marriage) live to mourn the loss of a mother that they all passionately loved. J. H. M.
