      DECLARATION OF WIDOW FOR PENSION State of Tennessee County of Jackson On this 23rd day of January, A. D., 1888, personally appeared before me, clerk a clk of Court of Record, of a Court of Record [sic] in the State, of Tennessee Sarah Rector, a resident of Gainesboro in the county of Jackson in the State of Tennessee, who being by me first duly sworn according to law, deposes and says: I am the widow of David M. Rector, who served under the name of David M. Rector, as a Private in the company commanded by Captain John Scanland, in the 4 regiment of Tenn Volunteers Infantry commanded by Col Richard Waterhouse, in the war with Mexico; That my said husband enlisted at Gainesboro Tenn on or about the ____ day of _____ 1847 for the term of 12 months; That I was married under my name of Sarah Taylor to my said husband, by Manon Anderson on or about the ____ day of ______ 1843, at my mother's house, in the state of Tenn, and lived with my said husband from the date of my said marriage until the day of his death, to wit: the 15th day of March, A. D., 1848, when my husband died at in the service in the State of Mexico, and that I have not since remarried, That there was never any legal impediment to said marriage. No. 1. That my said husband being duly enlisted, as aforesaid, actually served sixty days with the Army or Navy of the United States in Mexico, or on the coast or frontier thereof, or en route thereto, in the war with that Nation, which service was as follow: He enlisted in Capt John Scantland Company B in 1847 went to Mexico and died in March 1848 while in the service and the line of duty and was honorably discharged at ______________ on or about the __________ day of _____________ A. D. 184_. [No. 2 and No 3 left blank] No. 4. That I am 69 years of age, and that I was born on or about the 7th day of January, 1819, at Jackson County, in the State of Tennessee. [No 5 left blank] No. 6. That I claim pension by reason of the fact that I am dependent in whole or in part upon others than those legally bound for my support. That in support and proof of my right to pension I will hereafer submit evidence required under the regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior. That I have made heretofore made application for pension or bounty land, which said claim is No. do not recolect the no drew a land warrant for 160 acres That since the death of my husband I have resided at the following places, to wit: near Gainesboro in the county of Jackson, State of Tenn. My present post- office address is Gainesboro county of Jackson and State of Tennessee. That I am not labor in under any political disabilities imposed by the fourteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States. I hereby constitute and appoint, with full poser of substitution and revocation Wm. M. Pickett of Gainesboro, my true and lawful attorney to prosecute my claim. Sarah Rector (her mark) Pink Gipson Also personally appeared Pink Gipson, residing at Flynn's Lick, and L. M. Cason residing at Gainsboro, person whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Sarah Rector, the claimant, sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her that she is the identical person she represents herself to be and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim. Pink Gipson L. M. Cason Sworn to and subscribe before me this 23 day of January, A. D. 1888 and I hereby certify that the contents of the above declaration & c. were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before swearing, including the words Joseph M. Hunter Washington D. C. erased, and the words Wm M. Pickett of Gainesboro Tenn, added; and that I have no interest, direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim. **************************************************************************** State of Tennessee County of Jackson} In the matter of the claim for pension of Sarah Rector No 5816 widow of David M. Rector. Personally came before me John M. Chaffin Clk of the County Court for said county and State A. L. Wheeler aged 56 years of Gainesboro Tenn and L. M. Cason aged 49 years of [age] Gainesboro Tenn well known to me to Respectable and Entitled to ???? who first being duly sworn depose as follows (to wit) Afficiants have been well acquainted with Sarah Rector for some 40 years have lived in the same county and Neighbourhood of Claimant ever since her marriage to Richard P. Barks. Sarah Rector and R. P. Barks lived together as man and wife But a verry short time after their said marriage. Barks fled from the country and affiants knows nothing of his whereabouts Sarah Rector has never resumed marriage relation with any one else since her marriage to Richard P. Barks. Afiants acquaintance with Sarah Rector is and has been such that if she had resumed marriage relation with any one else the fact would have been known to us. Sarah Rector is known and recognized as the Lawful widow of David M. Rector decd by the community in which she lives. Affiants further declares that they have no interest direct or indirect in this claim and they make the foregoing statements from personal knowledge. H. L. Wheeler L. M. Cason Attest W. R. Johnson C. Hawkins Sworn to and subscribed before me this the 20th day of June 1888 and I hereby certify that the contents of the foregoing affidavit was fully made known and explained to affiants before swearing there to that the affiants is to me well known and entitled to credit and I further certify that I have no interest direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim.
