Clarissa "Clara" Harlow Brown. (Boone Co., KY, Marriages, 1788-1850, p. 106. Listed as Clarecy". Bond by:Lewis Deweese; also Boone Co., KY, Marriages, Book A, p. 2.)
She was born ca. 1783, Boone County, KY, and died ca. 1847, age 64.)Invenory of her estate was dated 13 April 1847).
Clarissa Harlow Brown was the daughter of Capt. John Brown, who settled in Boone Co., KY. Capt. Brown was the brother of Zebulon M. Pike's mother Isabella Brown. Therefore Clarissa and Zebulon were first cousins.
Capt. John Brown was born 22 October 1752 in New Jersay and died 18 November 1824. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier. No mention is made of her mother.
Because her father disaproved of the marriage, Clarissa and Zebulon eloped to Cincinnati and were married over her father's protests.
Clarissa, her father and a daughter, Clarissa Brown (Pike) Harrison are all buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery. The cemetery is located on Route 298, down the Ohio River from Ludlow, KY. it is about 1 mile beyond the end of the pavement on the right side of the road. [Note: I do not know when the directions above were printed.]
The above information is from pp. 142-143 of a book by Allen Raymond Pike, The Family of "John Pike of Newbury, Massachusetts, 1635-1995" published by Penobscot Press. Allen R. Pike is the Historian for the Pike Family of America [PFA]. Query ansered by: Rev. Dr. Roy Escott Pike, Current President of PFA.
