I checked the Leadville newspaper around that time to see if there was an article on their wedding. I had a couple of relatives get married in Leadville and both of them had an article. There was no mention of William's wedding so I have a feeling it was a pretty small affair.

One huge benefit we derived from living in Harrisville was seeing Grandpa Teeple frequently. He came to town nearly every week, in a horse and buggy, or a cutter if there was snow. He had a big bearskin coat and hat with earflaps, and a horsehide robe for his lap. He carried white peppermints in his righthand pocket, pink wintergreens in his left. These candies were dispensed as medicine depending on the severity of one's cough. We got expert in getting the kind we wanted. He taught Gerald to play the jew's harp and the mouth organ, and taught us to sing funny songs, like

Ohhhhh, I'll never wear the red anymore, anymore.
I'll never wear the red, diddly dinkems O
Oh, I'll never wear the red, it's so pretty on the bed,
So come buy me a molly, dolly rhyme.
So come buy me a molly, dolly, dimple olly, sally olly
Chuka=chuka chuk giltaroy, didly dinkem O.

He also taught us to dance the jig, which Gerald could do well, and the highland fling which Mildred and I excelled at. One feat Grandpa had that I always intended to learn, but never did, was to pare an apple in one unbroken peeling that one could carefully hold to make it look like a whole apple.

We weren't the only kids that loved Grandpa Teeple. Every kid on our street ran beside his buggy or cutter to take a few yard turn at a ride, and listen to his songs. He was Santa Claus at the Presbyterian church on Christmas Eve. He didn't bother with Santa's suit, and we all knew who he was-who could miss that luxuriant walrus moustache?-but no one cared, and we all pretended with gusto.

It was great fun at his house, too. He had a record player. He also had a wonderful orchard, with delicious apples, a Wagner, a sweet crab, and a dark red with a dusting to make it look purple.

Grandpa had remarried by this time. Mama's mother, Eliza Hastings died in 1918 while Uncle Wilson was away at war, from grief, some said. Our new grandma was Black Bill Johnson's (already mentioned) widow. Grandpa got up every morning of his life at 4 a.m. to do his barn chores, and went to bed immediately after supper most nights. One morning he was at breakfast and died with a spoon of oatmeal halfway to his mouth. He was 75. Gerald was devastated. He couldn't seem to stop crying. Gerald was named after Grandpa, first name Frederick, But his age may have contributed to his lack of control because Fernall, same age as Gerald felt just as bad, and sobbed all through the funeral. Fernall was Wallace Teeple's oldest boy. He had bright red hair and a pointy face. He and Gerald were good friends.

...Gerald was enthralled by any type of music, be it piano, organ, violin, or even Grandpa Teeple's jewsharp.

..Peaches were bought by the bushel, and all other fruit and vegetables we got from Grandpa Teeple, Uncle Bill Hastings, the Cummings farm, or from the farmer who brought our weekly crock of butter, quart of cream (so thick it could be scooped out with a table knife) and eggs.

Alcona County Review Feb 18, 1932
    Fred O. Teeple
The sudden death of Fred O. Teeple, Thursday, 11th at his home in Haynes Twp, came as a shock to the many friends and acquaintances in the county who have known and respected him over a long period of years, since 1870 to be exact, when he came to Alcona Village as a youth of 17.
Mr Teeple fell dead while eating his breakfast. He had been in his usual health and ha djust completed his morning chores before sitting down to breakfast. He was alone with Mrs. Teeple when he died without any warning at all.
Mr Teeple was born Jun 23, 1853 and came to Alcona County 70 years ago. He was married twice, first to Eliza Hastings Holden (??) who died in 1918, leaving 3 sons and 2 daughters, Earl of Birmingham, Wilson of Black River, Wallace of Sturgeon Point Coast Guards, and Mrs James Yuill of Duluth and Mrs Milo Johnson of Harrisville. His 2nd marriage was to Mrs Johnson who survives, with two brothers, Gilbert Teeple of Deckerville and Malcomb of Port Huron, and one sister, Mrs Mary A. Doan, also of Port Huron. Services were held at the home on Saturday afternoon in charge of Rev C S Brown. Burial in the family lot at Mt. Joy Cemetery.

William MASTERS and Mary JOHNSON 6th child William born 30 Oct 1828, ___, Butler, Ohio, USA. He might have died in 1846. I will keep your information as I have no source for when he died, nor do I have any idea where he died. I do not know if he married.
John MASTERS, the 7th child of William and Mary, came to Fairbury, Livingston, Illinois, USA. Teresa
    From: "Teresa Strahm"

Just wondering... would the children of your William Masters / Mary Johnson
include a son, William, who went on to marry an Elizabeth Burton (Elizabeth
    born 1824 - 1825, OH--quite possibly Guernsey Co.)? At this time, I don't have
any other info on William other than the fact that he and Elizabeth had at least
one child, David, who was born in 1856, Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL.
In the 1880 Knox Co., IL Census, I find Elizabeth listed as the head of her
household, which consisted of her son, David, and her mother, Jane Burton.
Elizabeth is reported to be a widow, so obviously William died sometime before
    that.
Any leads would truly be appreciated.

John Brown Pike was born November 22nd, 1827 to James Brown and Elizabeth Pike in Lawrencebury, Indiana. During the outbreak of the Mexican War he joined Company C of the 4th Indiana Infantry. His General was Winfield Scott, the Commander of the U.S. Army in Mexico. They were withdrawn from the conquest of Monterey and shipped to the conquest of Vera Cruz. Then they advanced towards Mexico. On September 14th, 1847 they captured Mexico City. Shortly after the war gold was discovered in California and the Pike families began to travel westward. Some families traveled from St. Louis to Oregon and California in covered wagons. However John, his father, and some other families headed down the Ohio River and up to Mississippi to Burlington. From there they headed across the prairies to Jefferson, Wapello, and Mahaska counties in Iowa (PIKE p.272-274).

He then met and married Eliza Frasier in the early 1850's. She was born in Eddyville, Iowa with no recorded birth date. Together they had four children: Anderson Victor, Mary "Mollie" Elizabeth, John Zebulon, and William Henry. Soon the outbreak of the Civil War took place. John and a group of men took their horses and rode to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. There they joined the 4th Iowa Calvary. The calvary was organized between November 23rd and December 26th, 1861. He was later transferred to the Marine Corps due to a break in his health. He served with the Marine Corps through the seize of Vicksburg and until the end of the war. His wife, Eliza, died shortly after the war ended on March of 1864 in Kirkville, Iowa(PIKE p.272-274).

He then married his second wife, Ann Eliza Hull, December 2nd, 1866 in Hopkins, Missouri. She was born April 1st, 1848 in Prospect, Ohio. Together they had eight children: Eva Eliza, James Cornelius, Lucy Ann, George Washington, Isabelle May, Herman Wyatt, Rufus Vernon, and Leon Wilson. They raise their family in Braddyvills, Iowa were he worked as a carpenter, wagon maker, and millwright. Even though he wasn't in good health he still worked hard to provide for his family. He didn't like the idea of being a pensioner of the government. However his congressman, Major John F. Lacey, persisted that he should receive a pension of eight dollars a month for serving in the Mexican War. So Major Lacy drew up the pension papers and hand delivered them to John, for him to sign. The pension did increase within time and even extended to his widow after his death(PIKE p.272-274).

At the age of seventy-seven, despite his health, he filed a claim on one hundred and sixty acres of land in western South Dakota with his sons. He then assisted in building his own house, which was a shack. They lived there until they were able to make proof of the house and receive a government patent for the same. Later they sold this to help ease their financial problems. He later died January 28th, 1910 in Kirkville, Iowa. His wife, Ann, died twenty years later on August 8th(PIKE p.272-274).

At the outbreak of the Mexican War young John joined the Infantry in Indiana (Co. C 4th Indiana Infantry) and was with Gen. Scott at the conquest of Monterey after which they were withdrawn and shipped to the conquest of Vera Cruz. From there they advanced against and captured the City of Mexico. Immediately following the War with Mexico and the discovery of gold in California, the Pike families began their trek westward. Some joined covered wagon trains from St. Louis to Oregon and California, but John Brown Pike and his father, James Brown Pike and their families came down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi to Burlington and across the prairies to Jefferson, Wapello and Mahaska counties in Iowa. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he and a group of men from these coun- ties taking their own horses rode to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where they became a part of the 4th Iowa Cavalry organized November 23 to December 26, 1861. His Regiment served through the War, but on account of a break in his health he was transferred to the Marine Corps through the siege of Vicksburg and until the end of the War.

He was married again at Hopkins, Missouri to Ann Eliza Hull and as carpenter, wagon maker, millwright, he took up life at Braddyville, Iowa. While his general health had been weakened by his war service, he never liked the idea of being a pensioner on the Government. His Congressman, Major John F. Lacey made out and brought him the papers which he signed granting him a pension of $8. 00 per month for his service in the Mexican War, and this was increased from time to time to the end of his life January 28, 1910 and ex- tended to his widow to August 8, 1930. Anxious to overcome the handicap of broken health and his to gain a competence in his later years, he, at the age of 77 years filed a claim on 160 acres of land in western South Dakota and assisted in building his own house (shack) and lived there with his wife until they were able to make final proof and receive a Government patent for the same. This he later sold to help ease the burden of their declining years. He departed this life from their humble home in Kirkville, Iowa, where they had reared their family to maturity and was laid to rest near his father and mother, James Brown and Elizabeth Car- berry Pike who had come to Iowa with him in 1849 from Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Lake Huron Shores book, Robert Came to the U.S 1848 at age 15 yrs

"The following was told to me by Robert's son William in 1902,
as we were working together planting potatoes.
When Robert was 12 he and a pal were playing with a gun, when
the gun accidentaly discharged and his friend fell down. Robert thought
he had killed his pal and threw the gun and ran. He ran to Liverpool and
seeing a boat about ready to leave, he got on as a stow-away. The boat
was bound for the new world, and the second day out he was hungry and
showed himself. The Captain knew he was a run-away and thought to take
him back on the return trip, and to pay his way, made him a cabin boy.
When they got to Canada Robert slipped off without being seen and because
he might be wanted for murder, he kept silent.
In Canada he met Jane Mary Storey who was the daughter of
William Storey, Mother unknown, who was born in North Ireland of Scot
parents who had immigrated to Ireland a generation before Jane Mary was
born. They left Scotland because of religious pressures and crossed the
approximately 14 miles between Scotland and Ireland at that point. Jane
Mary had a sister too who came to Canada and the sister came to Michigan
when Jane Mary did, but only stayed a year and went back to Canada.

From records in Alnona Co., Mich.: of Jane Mary Johnson's death:
    Date of death - 1904 yr. - 1st Mo. - 17th day .
at age 73 yrs. 10th Mo. 6 days.
    Subtracting 1830 yr. 3rd Mo. 11 days
    Date of birth - March 11, 1830
She was living with her daughter Anna at the time so Anna
probably gave the figures above. Anna said that Robert and Jane Mary were
probably married in St. Mary's, Ontario in 1851. A copy of the
application for license to marry and/or the marriage record might give
the name of the town or city where the parties lived or rather, were
born, so the genealogy could go farther back, so these dates could be
    documented fully.

(possible connection to Mrs. Steven Slack, Harrisville, Michigan of Jane Mary and her sister). Robert's daughter Anna thought that Robert and Jane Mary were married in St. Mary's, Ontario, Canada, in 1851. (from St. Mary's in 1971, came this report: "I am sorry that we do not have any information in regard to your inquiry as records whicih are available in this office date back only as far as the year 1880. Yours truly, Clifton Brown, Clerk-Treasurer".)
    Source: Susans List

Soon after marriage, they applied for a Homestead in an area
that the Dominion wished settled, Robert being a farmer . They
Homesteaded a piece of land, cleared it, built a home and farm buildings
and had horses and cattle. They had 13 children, 11 of them born in
    Canada.
The French and Indian War of American History took place under
the reign of King George II of England, but the treaty of peace wasn't
signed until three years after his death under King George III in 1763.
It was then that Canada became a British Possession, and for loyalty to
the King and for sending his serfs to take part in the war, the King made
a Grant of land to some Nobleman. This Grant was in S.W. Ontario, across
from Port Huron, Michigan, in what is now Perth and Huron Counties. (part of Huron Counties? Susans List)
The Nobleman came and looked over the Grant and all he saw was
a forest full of Indians. He said he wasn't interested and went home. But
about the time Robert and Jane Mary were married [1851], Canada thinking
the Grant wasn't going to be claimed, offered it for Homestead, and they
took a parcel of it as homestead, near Seaforth in Huron Co. or near St.
    Marys in Perth Co.
About 1865-1866 the Nobleman or one of his heirs came back and
liked what he saw, cleared fields, farm buildings, cattle and horses and
good black earth. He started suit in the courts to dispossess the
Homesteaders on the grounds that Canada had no right to dispose of
    private property that way.
The Homesteaders defended their claim with all they had, but
lost the suit. All Robert had left was a big black horse which he sold
and bought winter supplies. And fares for all his family and Jane Mary's
sister on a sailing vessel that was going to Alcona, Michigan, a booming
lumber and mill town in N.E. Mich., for a load of lumber. That was in the
summer of 1866, a few months after his son Samuel was born. Alcona Co.
    wasn't organized until 1869.

(In November, 1970, Milo N. met a John Frechette, an acquaintance from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. When asked what he was doing to occupy his time, Milo answered that he was working on a geneology of his family but slowing up in Ontario. Frechette mentioned a land grant in Ontario that was made by King George III to a Scot named Frasier. Frasier was an ancestor of his (Frechette) mother's family - Susans List)

Robert soon declared his intention to become a citizen [First
Papers] I haven't found out in what court but it was probably in Alpena,
Cheboygan or Iosco, the nearest. The Second Papers could be had in two
years. Then all his minor children would take his citizenship.

Robert carried all those supplies to a section of State land
[no roads] about seven miles from Alcona and got ready for winter, got
jobs, and built a log house. There is a record in the Register of Deeds
Office recorded May 13, 1881 at 11 A.M. that Robert Johnson, Acona Co.,
on the 9th day of April, 1870, purchased for $1.00 per acre, the N. 1/2
    of the N.E. 1/4 of section 17, T. 27 N., R 9 E. - 80 acres. Recorded by
    B. P. Cowley, Register of Deeds.

His son William got the West 40 above and Samuel got the east
40, and when Samuel went west to Idaho or Tekoa, Washington he deeded the
west half of his 40 to William. Rebecca bought the other half and it is
    owned by her daughter Blanche.

Incidently, the 4th marriage recorded in the new county was for
William E. Towner [21] from Westskill, Greene Co., N.Y. and Frances
Johnson [16] born in McAlpin Township, Canada West. They married June 28,
1869 by Rev. W. J. Johnston, no relation.
They had three children in Michigan before moving west.
Robert, who died August 31, 1872 at 4 mo. of whooping cough, Rachel and
    Jennie.
Taken from the record of Robert's death in Alcona County,
Michigan. Date of death - 1891 yr. - 6th mo. - 10th day; at age
    58 yrs. - 8 mos. - 6 days; Subtracting 1832 yr. - 10th mo. -
    4th day; Date of birth - October 4, 1832
Jane Mary was living at that time and probably gave this
information. Headstone in Mt. Joy Cementary, Haynes Twp. shows 1832.
Genealogy of Robert Johnson Family compiled by his grandson,
Milo N. Johnson in 1970 as best he could."

    From Thomas' note:
His son Robert ran away from home and came, as a stow-away on a sailing ship leaving Liverpool bound for the new world, Canada at age 12 or about 1844 (was born Oct 4 1832 according to the record of death recorded in Alcona Co Mich)
