CENSUS RECORDS: Nov 1850 District #11, Jackson, Tennessee family #1169 Claborn JONES age 40 male farming TN (I think it should be NC) Frances " age 35 female NC William " age 19 male NC Sally " age 17 female NC Matthew " age 15 male NC John " age 8 male NC Thomas " age 7 male NC Broudes " age 1 male NC Elizabeth " age 45 female TN All the children are listed as born in North Carolina. I believe they were all born in Tennessee. Also the Elizabeth age 45 is probably a sister or sister-in-law to Claborn and probably born in North Carolina instead of Tennessee. Also I think Frances age 35 may not be the mother to the older children just the 3 youngest. CENSUS RECORDS: 23 June 1860 District #11, Flynn's Lick P.O., Jackson, Tennessee South of the Cumberland River, family #428/428, page 60 Claborn JONES age 43 male farmer $500.00 TN Faney " age 40 female NC John " age 18 male TN Thomas " age 13 male TN Bruels " age 11 male TN Polley " age 9 female TN Polley JACKSON age 18 female TN

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Lazarus Jones was born about 1763 in Virginia; died before 1860 in Jackson County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

He moved to Jackson around 1827 when he purchased some land. CENSUS RECORDS: 1840 District #11, Jackson Co, Tennessee p. 52, 976.851 X2l Lazarus is in the 70 to 80 age bracket, there were the following children: 1 boy 5 to 10, 1 boy 10 to 15 (probably grandsons) =Elias Jones is listed right after him on this census record.= In District #11, Jackson, Tennessee in 1840 there is Amassa, Byram, Lazarus & Elias Jones along with William Billingsley listed in the census record. He was 77 in 1850 leaving with Susannah Billingsley and her children. I am not sure and do not have proof yet that Lazarus is the father of the children I have listed for him. But he is living with Susannah in 1850 and John and Jad do not live to far away from him. It is just a maybe that Amassa, Elias, Jad, Byram, John, Susannah & Nancy are the children of Lazarus. There is a Lazarus Jones married to a Kessiah Spear from Pasquotank county, North Carolina on the IGI at the Salt Lake Family History Library. The ages would be right to be this Lazarus. I also found that he was born ca. 1763 on the IGI and that they were married 9 March 1787 in Pasquotank Co, NC. He should have been about 87 years old in 1850 instead of 77 years old if born in 1763. Also found that a Lazarus Jones served in the Revolutionary War from North Carolina pension #W26796. A Lazarus Spears born 29 Sep 1786 in Pasquotank county, North Carolina gave a statement that he knew that Lazarus Jones had served in the Revolutionary War. Lararus Spears had a brother named Jesse Spears who was born 23 Aug 1789 in Pasquotank county, North Carolina. Their father was Samuel Spears who was born ca. 1761 in Halifax county, North Carolina. Samuel maybe the brother to Kessiah Spears who married Lazarus Jones. I am going to send for the pension record and see what I can find. (1 Jan. 2000) I received the pension record for Lazarus Jones, 23 FEB 2000. He is not the same Lazarus Jones who was in Jackson co, Tennessee. The Lazarus Jones who married Kessiah Spears died in 1814 or 1818 and his widow applied for a pension in 1842 in Macon Co, Illinois. I will need to keep looking.

According to Thomas Edward Jones Jr. a 5th great grandson of Lazarus the story goes that Lazarus came from Wales to South Carolina, moving later to Tennessee. Thomas e-mail address is ejones@net-serv.com He lives just outside Nashville (May 2000).

    Children:
    1. Elias Jones was born about 1799 in North Carolina; died on 24 Sep 1850 in Union County, Illinois.
    2. 2. Claiborn Jones was born about 1810 in North Carolina; and died.
