  1. 2.  John Nelson Pease was born on 27 Dec 1821 in Wolcott, Wayne County, New York (son of Alanson Pease and Nancy S Jeffers); died in UNKNOWN.

    Notes:

    ". . . Before Mr. Garlick, was John Nelson Pease, who inherited from his f ather, Alanson. His wife was a daughter of Stephen Boyce [Byce], and he l ong since went to Wisconsin. He was a member of the Methodist church. Alan son Pease was probably the first holder and the builder of the house. H is wife was Nancy, a daughter of the first Robert Jeffers. They had childr en-John N.; Martha, the wife of William Stewart, and Permillia, who marri ed an Ethridge, in Wisconsin. Mr. Pease was known as "Old Honesty," and dy ing, was buried in the Jeffers ground, further west. His widow accompani ed her son to the far west. . . . in an old deed, dated January 20, 185 0, I find that John N. Pease sold to Eron [Aaron] N. Thomas, . . ." - fr om "Rose Neighborhood Sketches," 1893, by Alfred S. Roe.

    There seems to be two (2) John N. Peases in Wisconsin; one in Rose, one Wa utoma. Both served as privates for the Union in the Civil War; one in C o. D, 37th Reg. Wisconsin Infantry and one in Co. I, 7th Reg. Wisconsin In fantry. The one from Rose enlisted 02 Aug 1861 and received a disability d ischarge on 03 Dec 1862 and the one from Wautoma enlisted 20 Aug 1864 a nd was mustered out on 04 Jun 1865. One left a widow named Emily a pensi on 13 Jan 1890, with an unreadable record re. an invalid date.

    The first settlement made in the west part of the town was about 1815, wh en Robert Jeffers, with his two sons, William and John, and Nathan Jeffer s, purchased about two miles west of the valley, towards Wayne Centr e. It was long known as the Jeffers settlement.
