"Boyce, Isaac, was born in Rose Junly (sic) 27, 1837, son of Stephen a nd Mary A. Boyce, he a native of Madison county and she of Wayne count y. The paternal grandfather of subject was Robert Boyce, a native of Jeff erson county and one of the early settlers of Wayne county, where he die d. The maternal grandfather, Nathan Jeffers, was one of the first settle rs of Rose, where he died. The father of subject came to Rose when he w as sixteen years of age and here resided until 1859, when he went to Michi gan where he now lives. Mrs. Boyce died in September, 1891. Subject w as reared on a farm and educated in common schools. He has always be en a farmer, has 128 acres, and follows general farming. Mr. Boyce marri ed in 1871 Laney, daughter of Peter Ream, of Rose, and they have two son s, Charles and John both of home." from Cowles, George W., "Landmarks of W ayne Couty New York," 1895, pg 296.
COMMENT from WJB: All the above seems correct, except I'm unable to rec oncile the part about Stephen Byce coming to Rose at age 16. Robert By ce is found in 1820 Census in Rose with 5 boys under 10 & one 10-15 year o ld male, but no 16 year olds, plus later census records indicate Robert 's wife, Esther, was 27 in 1820, too young to be the mother of a 16 year o ld. Perhaps Esther was Robert's 2nd wife? Plus Stephen would have be en at least 96 in 1900 rather than 85, as recorded in 1900 census.

There seems to be much confusion RE Mary Ann Jeffers' names. In the 18 60 US Census she is "Mary A. Byce," in the 1880 US Census she is "Mary A nn Byce," in Eliza Jane (nee Byce) Morrow's Canadian marriage record (189 9) she is recorded as being "Mary Ann Jeffers Morrow," in Nathan Byce's Al cona Co death record (1912) she is recorded as "Mary M. Jefferson," in Dan iel Byce's Alcona Co death record (1926) she is recorded as being "Sarah A nn Jeffers," in Aaron Byce's Alcona Co death record (1936) she is record ed as being "Mary Jefferson," and in a book written by a descendant of Dan iel (bet. 1950s-1970s) she is referred to as "Susan Jeffers."
NOTE: two of her sons both married Marys: Nathan married Mary Fitch aka "B ig Mary" and Frank married Mary Fitch aka "Little Mary." Little Mary is a ctually the daughter of Big Mary by a unrecorded father, prior to Big Mary 's marriage to Nathan. And dats alotta Marys & hence the confusion, I bel ieve.
