Her mother was Mary Fitch who had Little Mary out of wedlock in 1862, then Big Mary as they were called, married Daniel Byce the brother of Franklin Byce. Daniel raised Little Mary as his own. The Fitch's were neighbors of the Byce's in St. Clair County. Then in 1877 Franklin married Little Mary in Tawas, Mi. There seems to be much confusion RE Mary Ann Jeffers' names. In the 18 60 US Census she is "Mary A. Byce," in the 1880 US Census she is "Mary A nn Byce," in Eliza Jane (nee Byce) Morrow's Canadian marriage record (189 9) she is recorded as being "Mary Ann Jeffers Morrow," in Nathan Byce's Al cona Co death record (1912) she is recorded as "Mary M. Jefferson," in Dan iel Byce's Alcona Co death record (1926) she is recorded as being "Sarah A nn Jeffers," in Aaron Byce's Alcona Co death record (1936) she is record ed as being "Mary Jefferson," and in a book written by a descendant of Dan iel (bet. 1950s-1970s) she is referred to as "Susan Jeffers."
NOTE: two of her sons both married Marys: Nathan married Mary Fitch aka "B ig Mary" and Frank married Mary Fitch aka "Little Mary." Little Mary is a ctually the daughter of Big Mary by a unrecorded father, prior to Big Mary 's marriage to Nathan. And dats alotta Marys & hence the confusion, I bel ieve.

In Alfred S. Roe's 1893 b ook, "Rose Neighborhood Sketches," the school district west of Rose was st ill called the "Jeffers" district, locally.
