Benjamin married Mercy Hazen on 05 Oct 1819. Mercy (daughter of Eleazer W Hazen and Hannah Fuller) was born on 01 Jan 1780 in Carmel, Dutchess County, New York; died on 14 Oct 1857 in Lockport, Niagara County, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Mercy Gailord was admitted to membership in the Presbyterian Church of Hudson, N. Y., in 1807, and dismissed in 1814. "Widow Mercy Gaylord" was admitted to the Warren Congregational Church, 16 Aug. 1818. It has not been learned where her earlier married life was passed. No Gailor deeds or probate were found at Hudson.

He retained the original home of his father in Carmel and continued theiron business. The only record of his estate at Poughkeepsie is: 21 Nov. 1794, Isaac Fuller, Moses Hazen and Philip Smith, all of Fredericksburg in Frederickstown in Dutchess County, gave bond in the sum of 800 pounds for Isaac Fuller as adminstrator of the estate of Eleazer Hazen late of the same place, farmer. l After his death his family scattered, making it difficult to secure accurate records. Mis Chloe Fuller of Warren, CT, a niece of Hannah (Fuller) Hazen, wrote on her 72nd birthday, 26 OCT 1887, that the children Lydia and Amzi Hazen came to Warren soon after their father's death and lived with their uncle and aunt Sackett until they married.

Capt. He served with his brothers, Caleb, Aaron and Moses, in the 7th Regiment, Dutchess County Militia (Col. Henry Luddenton) in the Revolution. He was appointed Ensign, 26 Sept. 1786, Lieutenant, 27 Mar. 1787, and Captain, 1 June 1793, of Dutchess County Light Infantry, and was called deceased in 1797 when Hezekiah Rowland succeeded him.

Eleazer married Hannah Fuller about 1779. Hannah (daughter of Amos Fuller and Mary Taylor) was born in 1755 in Carmel, Dutchess County, New York; died on 13 Dec 1839 in Mahopac Falls, Carmel, Dutchess County, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Bapt. 8 May 1720 Caleb Hazen, with his wife and father in law, came towhat is now the town of Carmel in 1740, and settled on what has ever since been called "Hazen Hill," on the south side of Croton River, aboutamile and a half southwest of the village of Carmel.

The Hazen Family in America book has the following paragraph:
The tradition is that Eleazer Hamblin brought his family from Cape Cod to CT about 1739, and left them with the family of John Hazen for the winter, while he was prospecting in Philipse Patent (later Frederickstown), N. Y. When he returned to Connecticut in the spring, he found CalebHazen ready to go with him as his son-in-law. They settled within thelimits of the present town of Carmel, Putnam County; Caleb Hazen had afarm of about 500 acres on what has since been called Hazen Hill. He built his home on the west branch of the Croton River near the south endofthe dam at Reservoir D, and erected a forge and furnace a few rods below the bridge there. He manufactured everything made of iron then needed in building or in agriculture. The iron ore was obtained from a mine under what is now Brewster. As his children married, portions of thefarm were set off and houses builtfor them.

Caleb married Sarah Hamblin in Mar 1738 in Carmel, Dutchess County, New York. Sarah (daughter of E. Hamblin and S. Sears) was born on 16 Mar 1719 in Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts; died in Dec 1814 in Carmel, Dutchess County, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

CT001 The CT Nutmegger Dec 1992, p.366 Sarah Hamblin b Barnstable MA 1720/21, who m Caleb Hazen (John(3), Thomas(2), Edward(1)) in 1740 while her father was in NY scouting for land on which to settle, died in 1814 and was buried in the Old Gilead Cemetery in Carmel; her husband died in1777 and was also buried there (Pelletreau, p.390). Their home was called "Hazen Hill" and they had seven children (Pelletreau, p.390).

Amos married Mary Taylor. Mary was born about 1730 in Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
