    The Will of Edmund Ingalls

    The will of Edmund Ingalls of Lynn was proved 14:9:1648. The followingis copied from the original on file in the office of the clerk of courts at Salem, volume I, leaf 103.

    August 28.Anno Dom:1648

    I Edmund Ingalls if Linne being of perfect memory comit my soule to Godmy body to the graue, and dispose of my Earthly good in this wise.

    Ffirstly I make my wife Ann Ingalls sole Exectrix:leauing my house & hous lot together with ye Stock of Cattle & Corne wth her. Likewise I leaue Kathrine Skipper wth my wife.

    Item. I bequeath to Robert my sonne & heire, foure pound to be payd intwo yeeres time by my wife either in Cattle, or Corne; likewise I bequeath' to him || or his heires || my house & houslot after the decease ofmy wife.

    Likewise I bequeath to Elizabeth my daughter twenty shillings to be paid by my wife in a heifer Calf in two yeers time after my decease.

    Likewise to my daughter faith wife to Andrew Allin I bequeath two yeerling calues, and injoyne my wife to pay to him forty shillings debt in ayeers time after my decease.

    Likewise to my Sonne John I bequeath the house & ground that was Jerimyfitts lying by the Meeting house only out of it the sd John is to pay wthin foure yeers foure pound to my sonne Samuel and the ground to be his security: further I leaue wth the sd John. that three Acres land he hath in England fully to possesse & Enjoy.

    Likewise I giue to Sarah my daughter, wife to william Bitnar my two Ewes.

    Likewise to Henry my sonne I giue the house that I bought of Goodman west, & Six acres of grounr lying to it, & three acres of marsh || ground|| lying at Rumly Marsh, and this the sd Henry shall possesse in tw
    o yeers after my decease, Only out of this the 1d Henry Shall pay to Samuel my Sonne foure pound wthin two yeers after he Enters upon it.

    Likewise I bequeath to Samuel my Sonne Eight pounds wch is to be discharged as above in the proomisses.

    Lastly I leaue wth mary the heifer Calfe that formerly she enjoyed and leaue her to my wife for future dowry.

    Finally I appoint Francis Ingalls my brother, & Francis Dane my sonne in Law overseers of my will, and order that those things that haue no particular Exemption in the will mentioned be taken away presently after my decease: I intreat my overseers to be helpfull to my wife for ordering those matters.

    came to Salem, MA in Governor Endicott's company "and commenced the settlement of Lynn in 1629".

    Resided:
    He and his brother Francis received 120 acres in the 1638 division of land in Lynn. He settled on the east side of town, on what became Fayette Street.

    Will Probated:
    his estate appraised at L135

    Died:
    ´bª"In March of 1648, while travelling on horseback, he was drowned in the Saugus River, owing to a defective bridge. His heirs received damages from the town."

    His death was caused by falling through the Boston Street bridge over the Saugus River, and the General Court paid L100 compensation to his children. ´/bª
