4. | Thomas Sherwood was born in 1586 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England; died in Oct 1655 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Other Events:
- Immigration: Apr 1634, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts; from England on the Frances
- Will Probated: 1655, Fairfield County, Connecticut
Notes:
Thomas came to Boston in the Frances, April 1634, age 48, with wife Alice, age 47, and children Anna (14), Rose (11), Thomas (10), and Rebecca (9). He came to Wethersfield with the first settlers in 1635; he was a carpenter. On March 25, 1640, he sold his lands to George Wyllys. The family removed to Stamford where they lived until 1648 when he sold to John Holly and settled in Fairfield. He may have been related to Thomas Morehouse whose holdings adjoined his in Wethersfield and who accompanied him in his subsequent migrations.
If the age of the son Thomas was misstated in the ship's list, he could have been the Thomas son of Thomas and Alice baptized at St. Michael's, London, England, January, 23, 1630.
Thomas's will was dated July 21, 1655, and was proved on October 25, 1655. It mentions children by his former wife, Thomas, Jane, Tarnsen, Margaret, Sarah, Hannah, Rose, and Rebecca; his wife Mary, and children by her, Stephen, Matthew, Mary, Ruth, Abigail, and Isaac.
Fairfield Deeds mention on January 18, 1658 [1658/9] that "John Banks hath married Mary Sherwood the relict."
Thomas's widow Mary married (2) John Banks and died in 1694. Will of Mary Banks was dated January 6, 1693 [1693/4]; it mentions son Stephen Sherwood's daughter Ruth; son Matthew Sherwood's daughter Mary; Hannah "Lumis"; daughter Ruth; sons Stephen, and Isaac. The residue was to go to son Matthew. Ens. Wheeler and James Bennett, Sr., were the overseers. The inventory of the estate was dated March 13, 1693/4.
In a footnote, Jacobus adds: Statements that this Mary (Thomas's second wife) was a Fitch seem to confuse her with her son Matthew's wife who was Mary Fitch.
Note: Originally I had the names Thomas's wives' as Alice Seabrook and Mary Fitch. These names were taken from Descendants of John Page (1614ñ 1687); both surnames are wrong.

- Name: Benjamin Turney
- Resided: Bef 1639, Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts

- Resided: Sep 1644, Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut
Notes:
Benjamin Turney had settled in Concord, Massachusetts, by 1639, and was made freeman in June, 1641. He moved (it can be supposed) in September, 1644, with Rev. Mr. Jones, the Wheelers, and others to Fairfield, Connecticut.
His estate was inventoried on June 6, 1648, and presented by Mary Turney on November 10, 1648. The ages of his children were given in his will as: Mary 17, Robert 15, Judith 13, Ann 11, Rebecca 8, Sarah 6, Ruth 4, and Benjamin 3. Receipts were given to Joseph Middlebrook in 1661 by Nathaniel Seeley in behalf of his wife and for use of sister Sarah; John Wheeler in behalf of his wife and for the us of sister Ruth and brother Benjamin Turney and sister Rebecca; and Stephen Sherwood who married the said Rebecca acknowledged receipt of her portion; also Thomas Sherwood receipted to Middlebrook for his wife's portion. John Wheeler by 1673 purchased from Stephen and Matthew Sherwood all their interest in right of their wives, the daughters of Benjamin Turney, deceased.
The International Genealogical Index has additional ancestral lines of Benjamin Turney.
He settled in Concord, Massachusetts by 1639, and was made freeman, June 1641. He removed, possibly in September 1644 with the Reverend Jones, the Wheelers, and others, to Fairfield. Here he died in 1648. It may be assumed be assumed that he or his wife was closely related to Ann wife of Thomas Wheeler Sr, for in her will of 1659, which was witnessed by Robert Turney, Mrs Wheeler gave her best hat to Rebecca Turney.
