Obituary - "Mrs. Fred Byce Dies At Harrisville Twp. Home
Mrs. Fred Byce, aged 78 years, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, May 22, at h er home in Harrisville Township. She had been in ill health for the pa st year.
Olla Alberta Thornton was born in Richmondville, Sanilac County, Michig an, on June 24, 1871. She was the daughter of Silas and Caroline Thornto n, early residents of Alcona County. She came to Harrisville Township wi th her parents in 1881, at the age of ten years, and had lived here the re mainder of her life. Her marriage to Fred Byce took place in Harrisvil le fifty-six years ago on February 6, 1894, and they observed their Gold en Wedding Anniversary at the family home on February 6, 1944.
She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a good neighbor, a nd her home was always open to friends.
Left to mourn her loss are her bereaved husband and five children; t wo daughters and three sons. They are Daniel of Flint, Mrs. John (mabe l) Cutting, Oscoda; James Byce, Detroit; Earl of Harrisville and Mrs. Ch arles (Edna) Dorr of Mt. Morris. One sister, Mrs. Della Genge of Lincol n, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
The body was at the home where a prayer service was held at 1:30 p.m. t oday (Thursday) and then taken to the Harrisville Methodist Church where s ervices were held at two o'clock. Rev. Horace James, pastor of the churc h, and Rev. B. McNally of Oscoda, officiated. Interment in the Springpo rt Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Walker, Ray Walker, Russell Gilpin, Arthur Gallow ay, Thos. Barker and Max Carvo."
