William Duane would pick u pcalves in a township away from home and rent pasture in Harrisville Twp to get into the cattle business.
He was apprehended and was in Circuit Court, Alcona Co, Mich for larceny: In Caledonia Township, Edward Dahm - 3 calves - pay restitution of $160.00 - fine of $50.00 - costs of $50.00 - probation for one year. Jne 27, 1961
Again - Alfred Kamnowski , Alcona Township - one calf - two years probation - $50.00 costs - 60 days in jail - Psychiatric examination.
Again on Dec 12, 1963 a petition and order of Probation was discharged. Bill got in trouble again.
A group of nice Black Angus broke into a neighbor's field. They were strange cattle to the community, so the sheriff investigated and foundthey came from Lapeer County.
After the probation was discharged in the County, Bill and the Angus cattle went to Lapeer County Court. What happened there is not known.
Note: The County clerk and the Sheriff think Bill has straightened out.
After the barn fire and the death of his mother, Bill was depressed and said he wanted to go and join his mother.
William Duane Fettes was found dead in the cab of his pickup truck on a rural road in Haynes Sat. Dec 18, 1971. Cause of death was ruled as self-indiced carbon monoxide poisoning.

William Duane Fettes had a hard time. On June 13, 1970 his mother died. On feb 8, 1971 his barn burned on the Mungo Yuill old place and he lost a quantity of hay, 12 head of cattle including 3 head of the blooded cattle partially insured. Cause of fire unknown. Then he had a nervous breakdown and said he didn't want to live any longer. He went to the state Hospital at Traverse City for a while and was released from there feeing better. But he was found dead in Haynes road in his own truck Dec 18, 1971 of monoxide poisoning.

The fire was reported by Richard Walker on his way to work at 4 a.m. The fire burned the barn, a quantity of hay and twelve head of cattle, three head of which were the blooded charolais beef cattle. Cause of the fire unknown and partly insured.
