Robert Dayton was born in 1628 in England (son of Ralph 1 Dayton and Alice Goldhatch); died in 1712 in East Hampton, Long Island, New York.

Ralph 1, Thomas Baker, and Robert 2 were signers of the "Original
Compact or Civil Combination" for East Hampton, Robert 2 is thought to
have built, before 1663, the house now kept by the Incorporated Village
of E.H. as a shrine to John Howard Payne, author of " Home, Sweet Home."
