in Alcona County, Harrisville, Michigan on June 28, 1869. This county was
organized in early 1869, and their marriage license was the 4th one
issued in the new county. They walked to Alcona from home about 7 miles,
and to get the license they had to go to Harrisville, so they took off
their shoes and walked down the beach about 8 miles, got married by a
Rev. W. J. Johnston [no relation], bought a broom and walked home about 9
