2. | John Doane was born on 23 Jul 1773 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts (son of J. Doane); died on 13 Apr 1818 in New York City, Kings County, New York; was buried in 1818 in Old Norwich Town Cemetery, Norwich, New London County, Connecticut. Notes:
Captain Doane was a seafaring man, and sailed to foreign ports. His ship was sunk off Charleston by the British. He was at one time a man of wealth, and built the first steamboat of Norwich; but he met with heavy reverses, and left only a moderate fortune at his decease.
John married Eunice Howes in 1805. Eunice was born about 1776 in Chatham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts; died on 09 Aug 1855 in Massachusetts; was buried in Old Norwich Town Cemetery, Norwich, New London County, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
