The Cooper family moved to this area from Clinton County, N.Y., in 1852. Lawrence was an attorney, village historian and manager of Glen Ellyn's first baseball team. Lawrence C. Cooper and his wife, Emma Yalding Cooper, built a home on Park Boulevard in 1893 in an area commonly known to locals as the "S curve" just north of the railroad tracks. Few know, however, that this peculiar twist in the road was very deliberate and was but one of many contributions to the village made by Lawrence C. Cooper.
