Samuel Templeton served in the War of 1812. He was a private in Captain Thomas Crawford's Company of Infantry, 7th Regiment, North Carolina Detached Militia. He served from February 1, to September 4, 1814. He was paid $58.48 of which $1.42 was for traveling, 70 miles round trip and took 3.5 days.
For his service he received bounty land. He received one grant of 80 acres issued in 1851 and disposed of that and received another grant of 80 acres in March 1855. These grants were for the Indiana Territory.
'To my knowledge, Sam was always a farmer. I have a plat of early North Carolina, Iredell County, where a Samuel Templeton's property backed up to the mountains that I believe to be his. At this time I do not know his parents and those of Sarah's as the courthouse burnt and the church records were gone."

[notes of Phyllis J. Bordeau Jackson, Gr Gr Granddaughter]
"I know nothing about Sarah or her last name, but I will continue to investigate. My Gramma, Rose Bauner, said she was a very nice woman. She had to be a very brave woman to take two babies and go with her husband across untamed territories that included going over mountains and fording rivers, possibly meeting with Indians, as they were in the area at that time. It would have been nice if she had kept a diary of her travels."

Somewhere after 1820 they left Iredell County, North Carolina and headed for Ohio Territory and then into Henry County, Indiana. Indiana entered the union in 1816 and this was a very new and untried territory. They arrived in Ohio prior to 1822 and were in Indiana in 1832.

A story passed from Sarah to Rose Bauner to me was the trek over the mountains with two babies was very hard. These would be the Appalachian and possibly the Cumberland Ranges, and the ride down the Ohio River was bad. This had to have been very tough and rough in those times. They first lived in Ohio and then moved to Henry County, Indiana where they lived out their lives.
