Transcription : SAMUEL HILL Former Black River Resident Dies After Long Illness Samuel Hill died Thrusday at his home in Millersburg, following an illness of more than three years. The remains were brought to Harrisville Monday morning and services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Boyce in the Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the family lot at Mt. Joy cemetery in Haynes. In the funeral party were the widow, four sons, William of Lansing, Freeman of Alpena, Henry of Duluth, Samuel of Millersburg; two daughters: Belle of Lansing and Sarah of Millersburg. Ben Hill of Millersburg, Barney of Onaway, Mrs. Belle Hopkins of Lansing, Mrs. John Miller and Mrs. J. Johnson of Alpena, brothers and sisters of the deceased, were with the party. Mrs. Henry Hill, Mrs. Barney Hill and Mrs. Ben Hill also attended the services. Mr. Hill was 63 years of age and was born in Lockport, N. Y. While yet a child he came with his parents to the "Cove" at Alcona, where his father, Wm. Hill, located in 1845. He grew to manhood here and during the flourishing days of Black River he conducted a boarding house and livery there. Twelve years ago he moved to Millersburg, and engaged in the livery business, which is still conducted by his son, Samuel. Besides the relatives above mentioned he leaves a sister and brother, Mrs. John Freer and John Hill, both of whom live on a ranch in Montana. Mr. Hill had many friends in Alcona county and among the widely scattered former residents of Black River, who will learn with regret of his demise.
