J.A. JohnsonLetter to Cora from Edith (Panknin) Johnson May 10, 1950 Wednesday, May 10, 1950 Dear Mother, Was certainly happy to find out it really was a baby - kinda cute one too. Everyone was surprised I had a girl including myself. Susan was very happy and wrote me a note saying "Thank you for the girl." Got your card today and I'm afraid Dick will have to go without a baby brother. I have no such future plans. Jerry was in this afternoon and said Dad stopped last night and said you weren't going to be operated on until the 18th. I suppose you're disappointed. He certainly must be a busy doctor. Your new grandchild is really nice (say I). Its really too early to tell whether it;s a Johnson or Pank. She does have dark skin tho. I'm sorry it's going to be so long before you'll be able to see her. She'll be entirely changed by then. I guess Mildred will come on Saturday to give me a hand for a couple of days anyway. Jerry has been wonderful in taking over the house. He does whatever washing he has before he goes to work in the morning. Well, I'm getting a little weary and it's time for visitors (if any), so I'll close now. Love Edith
