Transcription : Late From Alcona. Dear Review.--At the Union Caucus held at the School House of District No. 1, on the evening of the 15th of March, 1880, meeting called to order by D. Beard, and D. Mulholland was chosen chairman and D. Beard secretary. C. Hutson and Thomas Fleming were chosen tellers. The following named persons were chosen candidates on the Union Ticket: Supervisor--F. E. Beard. Clerk--Duncan McArthur. Treasurer--Stephen Baxter. Highway Commissioner--James Martin. Justice (full term)--D. Mulholland. Supt. of Schools--R. L. B. McChesney. School Inspector--Thos. Fleming. Drain Commissioner--Geo. H. Lee. Constables--Wm. Vanalstine, F. M. Lyons (the other two I disremember). There was considerable interest manifested in choosing candidates for Supervisor and Highway Commissioner. There was no opposition for Clerk, Treasurer, School Sup't, School Inspector, Drain Commissioner or Constables. There were seventy men present, and it was one of the best meetings we have had in the township for good conduct. D. Mulholland, John McGuire and Elison Milligan were appointed a committee for next year.
