This was published just after Duncan lost the election in 1887; he had won several previous elections handily. Transcription : ALCONA ATOMS. PARODY ON "CHARLEY BURK'S IN TOWN." Oh, it's Duncan J.'s in town, b'ys, down to McGuire's place, Wid a bran new shave upon him, and the phwiskers aff his face. He came down to the caucus and yees can chalk it down There's goin' to be the divil's toime since Duncan J.'s in town. It's trating iv'ry b'y he is and pounding on the bar 'Till iv'ry man he's drinking with must Shmoke a foine cigar. And it's set thim up again, be gob, and play up Garry Owen, For yees can't pay one cint the bucket full whilst Duncan J.'s in town. We're joomping on the tops of sthools the both fernist an' back; He'll have yees pick the blessed flure and walk the straightest crack; He's lifting barrels with his teeth and singing, "Whin the Girls Comes Home," 'Till all the house be strikin' hands since Duncan J.'s in town. The b'ys down from the River they all stand around the bar, While the mossbacks from the country, they shmoke a foine cigar. And Mr. Prohibition man, he's mad enough to swear, But he dursent spake a word but grin the whilst that Duncan J. is there. Oh! it's Duncan, Duncan, Duncan J., ye divil with yer ways, A driving all the troubles off the dark and gloomy days. Ohone! that it's mesilf, wid all the griefs I have to drown, Must lave me work to resht a bit, since Duncan J.'s in town.
