Transcription : PURELY PERSONAL. A. J. Freer returned last week from a trip to Chattanooga, Tenn. He was down there, we are informed, looking up timber and mining prospects in the interest of Alger, Smith & Co. Mr. Freer as a successful prospector and land looker is without a peer in Michigan. Within a year he has been detailed to visit the timber regions of the Pacific slope states and territories in the interest of his employers, to say nothing of numerous trips to Wisconsin, and the upper peninsula, while Alcona county has been traversed by him from end to end, time and time again. He is always on the move, and, like all men of his calling, knows how to rough it when roughing it becomes a necessity. He knows what it is to lie down to peaceful rest at the foot of a stately pine tree with no covering but a blanket, and with the stars and wolves for company. The howling of the latter is like music in his ears. He knows Alcona county like a book, and it is hinted that he can strike a corner section post "with his eyes shut." Alger, Smith & Co. could hardly keep house without him. He is an encyclopedia of just such information as they must have.
