- Clement is named first in his father's will and was also appointed to help his´uª0 ´uª0 mother settle the´uª0 ´uª0 estate; therefore, he was probably the oldest child. Some deed´uª0 ´uª0 transactions name him and´uª0 ´uª0 Pauline in the same record which could indicate his wife's´uª0 ´uª0 name was Pauline. On the other´uª0 ´uª0 hand, he had a sister Pauline, and they may have´uª0 ´uª0 jointly owned land. Dr. John E. Stillwell in´uª0 ´uª0 HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL´uª0 ´uª0 MISCELLANY about Early Settlers of New Jersey (Vol. V, p.´uª0 ´uª0 225), interpreted the´uª0 ´uª0 records to mean his wife was Pauline and that they also had a daughter´uª0 ´uª0 named Pauline´uª0 ´uª0 who married Jarrat Wall.
´uª0 Clement patented 120 acres of land at Shrewsbury, NJ on Nov 2, 1675. Clement &´uª0 ´uª0 Pauline had´uª0 ´uª0 120 acres in Shrewsberry surveyed on Nov 1, 1675. He was one of the´uª0 ´uª0 earliest settlers of East´uª0 ´uª0 Jersey. In order to receive the land warrant, he had to have been´uª0 ´uª0 living on the land for a few´uª0 ´uª0 years.
´uª0 On 10 Nov 1687, Clement sold his patent right for 96 1/2 acres to Jedidih Allan of´uª0 ´uª0 Shroesberry´uª0 ´uª0 at Passequenehua, bordered on the east by George Keith, on the south by´uª0 ´uª0 Manesquam Brook,´uª0 ´uª0 on the west by Thomas Eattone and on the north by Burlington´uª0 ´uª0 Path. On 21 Oct 1713, his´uª0 ´uª0 brother John Masters, son and heir-at-law of Francis Masters,´uª0 ´uª0 late of Shrewsbury conveyed´uª0 ´uª0 property to Francis Masters, son of Clement Masters of´uª0 ´uª0 Shrewsbury.
´uª0 Clement apparently violated the Colonial Law by playing games on the Sabbath. In´uª0 ´uª0 1689, he´uª0 ´uª0 was brought before the Grand Jury and charged with "Playing nyne (nine)´uª0 ´uª0 pins on ye (the)´uª0 ´uª0 first day (Sunday)". Thomas Wainwright and John West were also´uª0 ´uª0 charged with Clement for´uª0 ´uª0 playing "Nine pins on Sunday."

´uª0 Masters, LeMaistre - Among names of original purchasers of land in Monmouth 1667,´uª0 ´uª0 was´uª0 ´uª0 Francis Masters, as the name is recorded in Freehold records. He is named at same´uª0 ´uª0 time as´uª0 ´uª0 "townshipper". His name subsequently appears in proceedings of court and in´uª0 ´uª0 proprietors'´uª0 ´uª0 records Perth Amboy, as LeMaistre. Their names indicate that both were of´uª0 ´uª0 Huguenot origin.´uª0 ´uª0 The name LeMaistre was soon corrupted to Masters. In 1675 Francis´uª0 ´uª0 LeMaistre or Master, was´uª0 ´uª0 granted 240 acres in Shrewsberry by proprietors. The same´uª0 ´uª0 year Clement Masters and Paulin´uª0 ´uª0 Masters were granted 120 acres in Shrewsberry.
