According to a book on gangs that we found, they are considered the first recognized outlaw gang in the country. They were composed of Moses and five brothers and were at their height in the late 1780s. They robbed the Penn. state treasurer, were later arrested, and four were hanged. The others, including our ancestor Joseph, fled to Canada, which is where our family comes from (Newmarket, Ontario).
