This family went to Knife River in 1899.
Warren worked in the lumber camps and in 1907 went to work for Duluth & Iron Range railroad as a fireman. Retired after 46 years as an (igineer?) when US Steel, the railroad owner, converted to deisel. He was a small, wiry man who loved deer hunting, grouse hunting and fishing. He had a place, "Camp Jeff" on the Gooseberry River. He was elected to thte state legislature in 1925 as a Republican and was Chairman of Game, Fish and Highways. He retired undefeated. Warren and Hattie had a son, Richard Homer Hastings, a retired attorney in St. Petersburg.
