Military:
- He fought for his country in the Revolution; was appointed Ensign in Capt. Nathaniel Scribner's Company, 7th Dutchess County Regiment, N. Y. Militia, 28 May 1778, later was Lieutenant in Capt. David Waterbaury's Company in the same regiment, under Col. Henry Luddington. ; After the war, he was appointed a Captain of Dutchess County Militia, 27 Sep. 1786; First Major. 7 June 1793; and Lieut-Colonel Commandant, 24 Mar. 1803,holding this office until his death.d

Occupation:
- He kept the old homestead at the top of Hazen Hill, and at first worked at the forge.
- Later he built a shop near his house for the manufacture of fur hats, and traded for furs in Canada.
Will:
- His will, undated, proved 3 Mar. 1809, gave $200.00 apiece to his children, Hosea, Sabina, Zilla, and Mentor, at the age of 21 or sooner if they marry. The widow was to have life use of the rest of the property, and Eliza to have enough to make $200.00 (she had had part). The property, at the widow's decease, was to be equally divided among the heirs. His part of the land held in Frederickstown with his two oldest sons, and his part of the sawmill, to be sold. Executors; wife Ruth Hazen, twooldest sons, Joshua and John Hazen, and Amos Beldin. Witnesses: AaronHazen, Benjamin Fuller, Elijah Morgan. [Wills, Dutchess County, C:297.]
