Uncle Eddy was an engineer on the Detroit & Mackinac railroad that "went to Au Gres" my mother told me. The railroad went right past Uncle Eddy's and Aunt Eleanor's farm. My mother told me that one of the favorite things that she and her siblings, along with various cousins that might be handy, was to go out to the farm and line up along the side of the fence, waiting for the train, because Uncle Eddy would, without fail, blow the whistle on the engine for their benefit. She loved it. - Lisle Law
My clearest memory of my first visit to the Vaughan Farm was of a seemingly endless row of Lombardy poplar trees that lined the very long drive to the farmhouse. My second visit was when I was about eleven years old, and we were up there for Aunt Lettie's funeral. The last time I was there I was in high school. We had driven up to attend Aunt Eleanor and Uncle Eddy's Golden Wedding aniversary party. I remember clearly that the AuSable River flowed right past their backyard. The railroad was somewhere near. My mother told me years later that they had sold some of their farm to Oscoda for construction of a high school. Now, when you drive out River Road you go right past the high school. The last time we were up there, driving the River Road, I noticed a condiminium development, with a very trendy sign that read " Vaughn Farm Estates". I had my usual negative reaction to all these developments that are everywhere. Anyway, their farm was outside of town aways, on the River Road. - Lisle Law

Served as a Private with Company E, 35th Michigan Infantry Regiment during the Spanish American War (1898)
In 1900 the U.S. Census lists him as a "fireman-locomotive". His marriage record lists him 20 years old, a resident of Oscoda and a "fireman-locomotive."
